This is Not The Game I Got Addicted To

Cornhole online, thumbs up or down

By now, we are all sick of the ghost kicking out butts in cornhole online, throwing bags on an open board and for most of us, not having anywhere to play indoors so having to throw bags in between the rainy days. And most of all, we miss hanging out with our cornhole family and the competition of throwing bags against another human.

You know the old saying, you never know what you have until it’s gone…. Let’s talk about virtual cornhole online and how you are doing with it. As much as we hate to say it, this could be it for a while, so we better get used to it. Are you killing it or sh*tting the bed? Well, that really depends on the type of thrower you are. For this article, you are either a strategic thrower or you are a non-strategic, straight up the middle thrower.

Strategic Cornhole Throwers

If you are a strategic player, then you know there is so much more to the game than just throwing a bag in the hole. Sure, that is the end result but how you get there could be the difference between a huge round and a wash. Especially if you are trying to prevent your opponent from getting his bags in the hole by utilizing the strategic side of the game. If you want to know more about cornhole strategies, check out this article.

I always ask, do I really want to go hole for hole with the best cornhole players in the world? If your answer is no, then you better figure out a way to take away that lane up the middle. And don’t get me wrong, most pro’s will find other ways to get in the hole like an airmail, or push your blockers thru, etc, but there is always that chance that they will miss the airmail or kick off to the side on a push. I mean, lets face it, Pro or not, they are human and have off days.

Straight Up the Middle Hole Seekers

If you are a straight up the middle thrower, you are probably loving the online thing and killing it. I mean, it’s your game! No other bags on the board, no need for strategy, no blockers, nothing in the way, just a straight lane to the hole. And 4 bagger after 4 bagger, right?

I mean, unless you are playing against another straight up the middle hole seeker, how often in a real match is there an open board, other than you getting first bag? I am saying either style of play is better than the next but, in my opinion, the cornhole online and straight up the middle game is boring, LOL. Thank God we live in a world where people are free to make their own choices and play how they want.

Maybe your just not the cornhole online type

If your game normally consists of a 1st bag blocker or if you like to play more of a defensive game, then cornhole online is probably not working out so well for you. But, if you love to throw bags straight up the middle and do not care about anything other than getting them in the hole, then you are probably one of the kings of cornhole online.

cornhole online doesn't replace a good tournament

If you are a strategic player like me then cornhole online is probably not the game you fell in love with and became addicted to either. I love a good thinking game, where you have to plan your next shot and think about what you opponent will do with his remaining bags. The whole strategic game is lost when playing against nobody on an open board.

Don’t be a quitter!

Even though you are not good at cornhole online, I am not sure quitting is the right answer either. I am speaking for myself here because I too wanted to quit but, for me, the addiction to the game is too strong. Maybe the right answer for those that are having a hard time with the virtual game is to work on that.

It’s kind of like this, let’s say you have a killer airmail shot that you make 75% of the time but your push shots are lacking and coming in at only 25%. When you practice, do you throw airmails or push shots? Hopefully you are working on the shots that need the help.

Well this situation is no different. You already have a great blocker, so now is the time to work on your straight up the middle throws. Then, when the social distancing is over and you go back to a face-to-face tournament, you will have bigger bag of tricks with you. I know it seems like I am giving you advice, but I am really absorbing the info myself as well. Because I am just like you!

I pray daily that virtual cornhole online is not the future of the game so we can get back to the face to face interaction and competition that we all miss and love about the game really soon!

If you are looking for some things to make your cornhole online experience a little better, here are our recommendations.
1) Pick up a score tower. A beautiful Cornhole Addicts score tower is a great way to keep score but also, there are 2 drink holders and a slot for a tablet which is great if you play Scoreholio or ACL Virtual.
2) Grab yourself some new bags. We have tons of bags for sale on the site and many in stock that will ship out the next day.
3) Get a tripod to hold your phone for streaming live. We have a couple recommendations you can purchase from Amazon, right on our Ghost Cornhole page

  1. You touched on the strategic, but for me it’s more the physical aspects that don’t bode well to competing in these tournaments. Weather and time frame are big factors. It’s seems that the majority of these tournaments originate from the west coast. Any start times after 2:00PST don’t allow East coasters enough time before it gets dark. Weather is another issue that can’t be controlled from region to region or for that matter even within your own State. Let’s face it, the vast majority of us don’t have the option of indoor space to throw.

I entertained running Scoreholio virtual tournaments for our club and region only. After posting to Facebook, I got no response from membership or board members. This surprised me because our members are pretty fanatical about cornhole. All of our leagues and tournaments are normally maxed out. Personally, I have not played in a virtual tournament. I tried to, I had everything set up and ready to go and then Ben at Scoreholio had to cancel. I have not had another opportunity since.

Maybe it’s style of play as you suggest. Maybe it’s time, weather or even technology that deters players or maybe a combination of all. I do think it is a cool idea, but only a Bandaid to get us by until the real thing is allowed again.
