Pickleball is a paddle sport that blends elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It’s easy to learn, can be played indoors or outdoors, and is suitable for all ages and skill levels. The game can be played in singles or doubles, with the goal of hitting a perforated ball over the net and scoring points when your opponent can’t return it. With its fast-growing popularity, leagues and tournaments are popping up everywhere, making pickleball a fun, competitive way to stay active and social.

Here are some key aspects of how to play pickleball:

Pickleball is played on a 20′ × 44′ court for doubles and 20′ × 22′ for singles, divided by a net set at 36″ in the center and 34″ on the sidelines. Players use solid paddles made of wood, composite, or graphite and a lightweight plastic ball similar to a wiffleball.

Games are typically played to 11 points, win by two, with only the serving team able to score. Serves must be underhand and hit diagonally into the opponent’s service court, clearing the no-volley zone.

The game includes rules for court boundaries, the no-volley zone (“kitchen”), and the double-bounce rule. Doubles play emphasizes teamwork and communication, while strategy combines offensive and defensive shots like volleys, groundstrokes, and smashes.
