In the last article we gave you the basics of how to start an epic cornhole league. Now lets talk about how to run an awesome cornhole league. You have the venue, players and equipment and you know what type of league it will be so lets touch on the actual management and administration of the league and all the back end stuff that comes with it. A well managed, smooth running league will ultimately be the most fun for all the players.
Run an Awesome Cornhole League
This article was edited 7/27/2025. We no longer use the method we discussed earlier with scoring sheets and switched over to an easier way!
There are different ways to run an awesome cornhole league but we are going to focus on this one because I have found over the years that is it the best way to get all players involved and give everyone a fair shot to win and grow. We do a Round Robin league where your points are tallied up weekly.
Our league is currently being run through an app called Scoreholio. (If you are unfamiliar with it, you can find it in your app store.) The league is a 10-week season of game play with the 11th week for playoffs. Each week, registered players will be randomly partnered up to play a game against a random team. The total points you and your partner accumulate for that game, win or lose, count toward your total score for that week.
You must show up a minimum of 5 out of 10 weeks in order to rank for the playoffs. Which is usually not a problem for most because heck, we are all Cornhole Addicts and can never get enough. Reason for the minimum of 5 weeks is that only your top 5 scores count towards your overall ranking. So by showing up for 10 weeks, that allows you to have 5 “bad” weeks of throwing and still rank high.
At the end of the 10 weeks we divide players into 2-3 divisions, depending on how many players we had for the season. You are then paired with a partner. If there are 20 people total in that division, the #1 player partners with #11, 2 with 12 and so on.
And we pay out the top 3 spots in each. Depending on how many you have, you can keep it all 1 Division or break it into 2 or more. Remember, to run an awesome cornhole league you must keep it fun, fair and give everyone a chance to finish on top.
League Fees
You need to figure out how much it costs to join your league and how you are going to collect money from people. We used to collect a weekly fee and have just started, this season, collecting a lump sum all at once. With the weekly, you need to keep track of attendance and who paid. With the lump, once everyone is paid, you don’t need to worry about it anymore. One less thing to do to keep the league running smooth. Our league fees go towards our end of season playoff winners as well as the maintenance of the league like new boards, new bags, maintenance of equipment, etc.
League Administration
We discussed how to run an awesome cornhole league and now it’s time to discuss the administration stuff. For this, it is best to find someone with computer skills. Someone that knows their way around Google Docs, MS Word/Excel, and social media. This is where the time comes in. In the beginning, depending on your numbers, the time commitment is small but as the league grows, so does everything else.
At the end of the night, you will want to transfer all your numbers, players points and or PPR to an Excel Worksheet so that it can easily be organized from top to bottom. After you get all this squared away, you will want to post the weekly results to your leagues Facebook page.
Social media is not only a great way to interact with everyone in the league but also great to attract new players so your league can grow. Make sure everyone knows exactly when and where you are playing. And take pictures, lots of pictures, to post on social media. Make a big deal out of it. “If you build it, they will come”!

So we are in a Cornhole league. Last year at the end of the season the team with the most wins, wins but if it’s a tie it then goes to team points. This year we played our normal season but for the last day of games only teams 1-4 play. With 1st playing the 4th team and teams in the 2nd and third spot play. Then the winners play and the losers play. Have you ever played this way? So let’s say your in first place. On the last day you lose to the team in fourth place so now you are playing for third or fourth place. I’m just wondering if anyone else plays this way?
I like the Round Robin style league play where each person switches up partners for every match. My question is, how do you run the playoffs? If players are seeded based on their league play, how do you setup the seeds for the higher seeds to earn an advantage? Do higher seeds get paired together?
Most of the time the top seeded player is paired up with the top of the middle. Ex, you have 20 players, #1 would be paired up with #11, 2 and 12, 3 and 13 and so on.
Hello can i get your format to start a league, any information would be greatly appreciated.
I am thinking of start a league at work for fun and to boost morale. Can you please send me a copy of your blank score board sheet? I have people who work shift work and may not be able to come each week. Will this format still work?

Hi I am interested in a cornhole league. I do play on a fun basis but not a professional. Can you please send me a copy of your blank score board sheet? I’m not good at computer I was once before my dam husband got this Apple computer and now I’m lost!
Also if people come who are good I mean, good players! Like they compete in tournaments. Can I run the league as we draw names and your partner is who you get for that night? I do t want someone good and getting me and being an ass. Like you said I want it to be fun.
Kim, the download links for the sheets can be found in the last paragraph
Hi,
I know this is an old post but, I would be interested in you league format. I am currently running a league and think this would improve it. Also do you have any information on setting up a handicap league to keep lower skilled player interested?
Thank you

Hi,
I’m from Shenandoah Valley Cornhole Group
We do leagues through out the year. I’m interested in doing the league with your format. Can you send me the information and sheets that we need to get started. We are starting one again the first Sunday in November. Also can this work if you draw for partners each week or just bring your partner?
Thank you for your time
Tammy Williams
Tammy, sure, I will email you the info and we can talk more there.
